Harvey will check on San Diego Zoo availability; survey your teachers for list of topics for zoo presentation & post to wiki under Ideas
Jill checked with Heather on the eMission and discovered that "It’s new in the sense that it’s the first distributed one they’ll do. But it will be based on one of their existing ones." The cost is $550 but there will not be MCU charges.
We spoke with Michelle Randolph and Rachelle of the San Diego Zoo and discussed:
1. Michelle will contact Heather Weisse to get the FAX number she can use to send Heather the invoice.
2. We will VC with SD Zoo on November 18 at 10:30 AM EST (7:30 AM PST).
3. Our topic is adaptations with life cycle and habitat included as appropriate for grade 3 to 5 students.
4. Possible live animals are Panda, Komodo Dragons, Poison Dart Frog, Monarch Butterflies, Polar Bears and others as available.
5. Structure will be interactive and will include - Introduction by SD Zoo, Animals, Clips from Zoo, Questions from students. They could have questions after each animal. Animals will vary depending on availability of animals for the topics.
6. SD Zoo part of the VC will be 45 minutes - we would need to be connected 15 minutes before to get started and would need 5-10 minutes after the Zoo's part to introduce the rest of the projectand answer questions.
Schools involved are:
Jill - Manheim Township SD - Neff Elementary School Grade 4 - Bridget Kaufhold Teacher
Harvey - Philadelphia - 4th grade class at Powell Elementary
Allison - Pocono Mountain School District- Pocono Elementary Center- 4th Grade class- Jean Ann Kresge and Julie McEvoy teachers
Noel - 5th Grade class
Vernice - Lionville Elementary 4th grade class
Noel will create Note Sheets for our students to use to keep notes during VC. Bridget suggests we might want room at the bottom for students to jot down questions during the presentation so they will be ready to ask questions. Prior to theVC we will all need to take part in a test at a time offered by MAGPI (I asked Heather for the 2 dates and a test time). The teachers will need to prepare the classes for VC etiquette and dress and the format. As we begin one of use will need to introduce the VC, welcome the schools by name and introduce San Diego Zoo. Another one of us should be prepared to thank the zoo at the end and then explain to the students what they will be doing before December 9 to prepare for the game. We would need a deadline for all questions to be sent to one person to prepare the game. I suggest December 2 and that we meet that day by Elluminate.
For December 9 at 10:30 - Session #2 - Noel thinks she will be able to project the game and run it from her site - she will check. Bridget will check if she can download the Jeopardy game she uses and send to Noel. We are thinking that each school would select a topic or an animal to research and prepare 5 to 7 questions. Then that school could not choose that topic or animal as we play the game.
NEXT MEETING: We will meet next Wednesday, November 11 at 3:30 by Elluminate to finalize details. Can everyone be there and bring a teacher?
